Amy Zapata is a street photographer and multi-disciplinary artist whose work exists to capture the ephemeral nature of our surroundings. Amy began her journey with photography at Pierce Community College where she transferred to California State University Northridge (CSUN) to receive her BA in Film and Video. Amy continued her education at CSUN and in 2019 completed a Master in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Photography. At CSUN Amy was voted president of Photo Club and premiered her first solo show, “Round the City, Round the Clock,” a photo collection of double exposed images taken during the pandemic, in Manzanita Hall. In addition to her education Amy co-created “POCHA” a multimedia, sold out, event, that highlighted her own work and other local LA QPOC artists. In 2021, Amy was accepted into the Estudio Arte residency where she produced the show TIES, a collaboration with painter Pablo Cuen. In 2022, Amy began her international residency at Arquetopia under the mentorship of Francisco Guevara. Amy was a part of “Reflections of San Bernardino” (2023) a collection of photography highlighting the city of San Bernardino. From what she learned co-creating POCHA and TIES, Amy was able to create “Bridges of Pride” (2023), a free community event empowering Queer youth in the Inland Empire. In 2024, Amy presented for the week of Media art and technology in the contemporary world at the Universidad Autonoma de Puebla in Puebla, Mexico. In addition Amy’s photography was featured in “I’m Grateful Thorns Have Roses” a dual show that spread from Riverside to San Bernardino at both the Civil Rights Institute and the Garcia Arts Center. Collaborating again with artist Pablo Cuen, Amy’s work was featured in “Esta Tierra Que Somos,” at the Eastwood in Hollywood, CA. She was a featured artist at Cypress Colleges "Window Display," and recently has particpated in the group shows, TopoGraphix, Concrete Hope and Lens as Witness. She is also in the current exhibition at The Cheech Marin Museum, for the show "Chicano, Camera Culture." Amy’s documentary work directing “Genderfuck” was shown at the Shanghai Queer Film Festival in 2017 and in 2024 won Best Documentary from the Inland Film Festival. Amy has written for thePomanan, a highlighted artist for Voyage LA, and her work was featured in the Press Enterprise. |
